Costus sp. ‘Belize Chocolate’

Red blooms become large ‘chocolatey’ colored blooms with maturity. Flowers are on 2 meter stems. Year round habit and vigorous as well.

 

Collected, named, and introduced by Mark Collins of Plant Group Hawaii. Stem, ligules, petioles, and undersides of leaves are finely pubescent. Upper leaf surface is glabrous. Inflorescence is obvate with tight reddish-brown bracts. Bracts have a green stripe from bract tip along centerline. Flowers are reddish-orange. Labellum is yellow with pink-red stripes.
