Created by the Federation Flower for the Northern Territory in Darwin, Australia. The Darwin Series were created based on crosses between Alpinia 'Jungle King' and 'Jungle Queen'. The aim of the program was to improve the attractiveness, color, form, yield, and vase life of Alpinia pururpata cultivars. The series consist of several selections including: ‘Darwin Dawn’, ‘Darwin Desire’, ‘Darwin Dolly’, ‘Darwin Lady’, ‘Darwin Princess’, and ‘Darwin Sunset’.
